Martin Luther King Jr. Week Celebration Keynote: Naim Edwards

Naim Edwards will give the keynote address as part of a weeklong celebration of the life of Martin Luther King Jr. on Jan. 17 at 6 p.m. in the Tippie Alumni Center.

Edwards completed undergraduate studies at Morehouse College, Martin Luther King Jr.’s alma mater.¬†From Morehouse, Naim joined the Peace Corps in Ecuador, spending two years as a natural resource conservation and sustainable agriculture volunteer. The experience gave him a deeper understanding and new perspective on capitalism, racism, and environmental protection as well as a greater appreciation for education. He later attended graduate school at the University of Michigan, completing a master’s in ecology and evolutionary biology.
Edwards now lives in Detroit and is the garden designer and program manager for Voices for Earth Justice. He also has become involved in the water, land, and food justice movements.
