“Memory and Struggle: Museums, Monuments, and Terror”
TRAVEL DATES: May 14–29, 2018
TAUGHT BY: Eric Boynton (Philosophy and Religious Studies)
From the 16th Street Baptist Church, to the National Lynching Memorial, and the 9/11 Memorial, we travel to a number of keys memorial sites in the US: Birmingham, Selma, Montgomery, Atlanta, Washington DC, and New York. We critically analyze public monuments, museums, and other historical sites of violence and loss to see how those memorials inflect, motivate, and/ or complicate current efforts to understand and respond (politically and ethically) to warfare, racial violence, and other forms of terror.
