The CIEE study abroad programs in China foster a Chinese language-only environment. In order to support students to maximize Chinese language proficiency gains, all participants live with Chinese host families or Chinese roommates. Participants select one of two housing options prior to arrival. Meal options depend on the type of housing selected. Students living with host families will eat some or most meals with their host family but should budget for additional meals outside the home. Students living in a dormitory setting must be prepared to pay their own meal costs on-site in China
Students are charged Allegheny tuition and the $300.00 off-campus study fee, AC double room and a mini meal plan (if included in the program cost and is dependent on housing selection in China). Allegheny aid, except work/study, is applied to program costs. Those that choose to live in a dormitory setting must be prepared to pay for some of their own meals on-site in China. Additional costs include a passport ($120), international airfare ($1800-$2000) All fees are estimates.
