2017 New Student Orientation Schedule

Welcome to Allegheny! We are excited that you are joining our community of scholars and leaders. New Student Orientation is designed to welcome incoming students with events that introduce students to campus life and the many resources that are available. We encourage you to connect with new and returning students, discover the value of the Allegheny experience, and engage in the vast curricular and co-curricular programs, activities, and services.

The New Student Orientation schedule is your guide to the events our Gator Orientation Leaders, faculty, and staff have planned to connect and engage with you over the next few days. Take advantage of all programs and activities as they will be informative, helpful, and fun! Our goal is to help make your transition as smooth as possible as you learn to successfully navigate the Allegheny College experience. Welcome and GO GATORS!

Allegheny is especially well known for the undergraduate preparation of successful health professionals. Our graduates do more than gain admission to professional school; they perform exceptionally well once there, and they flourish in their careers. Our Pre-Health advisor will provide an overview of the Pre-Health Professions program, including resources to help students prepare for careers in the medical, dental, and veterinary professions. There will be time for participants to ask questions about the program.

Allegheny Listens is a shared learning experience designed to introduce new students to each other and to the academic community. New students will come together for a common reading and shared learning experience that introduces them to diversity and academic discourse.

This year’s book is The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot. The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks tells a riveting story of the collision between ethics, race, and medicine; of scientific discovery and faith healing; and of a daughter consumed with questions about the mother she never knew.

​If you need to make adjustments to your course schedule for Fall 2017, ​you should use this time to speak with your academic advisor (if you have not already done so), and to speak with the faculty teaching courses about adding. You will need an “add card,” which you can get in Bentley Hall. Once the add cards are signed, please visit the Registrar’s Office ​on the second floor of Bentley Hall to address ​additional ​questions or submit signed add cards. ​You may drop courses via WebAdvisor, but should only do so after consulting your academic advisor.

Speak About It! is a performance-based presentation about consent, boundaries and healthy relationships using a combination of humorous yet provocative skits, interactive dialogue and powerful monologues. The skits address consent, sexual assault, and bystander intervention.
