Assistant Professor of Political Science Jackie Gehring and Associate Professor of Political Science Brian Harward presented a co-authored paper, “Cultivating Civic Mindfulness, Judgment, and Engagement: Integrating Student Learning and Community Events through Interdisciplinary Group Studies,” at the 2014 American Political Science Association’s Teaching and Learning Conference in Philadelphia. Their paper distinguishes an education directed toward judgment and discernment from the canonical view of higher education — that privileges “knowing that” or “knowing how.”
