Music classes

Ensembles:

Allegheny ensembles include the Civic Symphony, Wind Symphony, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band, College Choir, Women’s Vocal Ensemble, Chamber Choir, College Chorus, and a variety of Chamber Music ensembles. Participation in some ensembles requires a successful audition. The Music department submits Add cards for ensembles directly to the Registrar’s office after classes begin.

Lessons:

Applied Music classes (private lessons) are available to students; an additional fee applies. Private lessons should be added using Add cards after the semester begins. Please consult the Music Department to determine the appropriate level for lessons; an audition may be required.

Group lessons (Music 105, 106, 107, 108) are offered on various instruments. They are taught at an introductory level in a small group setting. Group lessons do not require a fee and may be added during preregistration using WebAdvisor or with Add cards after the semester begins.

Music Theory courses:

An appropriate score on the Music Placement exam is required for enrollment in Music Theory courses numbered 200 or above. Students with no previous musical background should enroll in Music 188 to learn the fundamentals of musical theory and notation.
