The Marshall Foundation Scholarship

Perhaps the most competitive scholarship; forty scholarships are awarded each year. A scholarship for two years of post-graduate study in the United Kingdom at a university of the scholar’s choosing. Trustees focus heavily on the applicant’s research interests and motivation, and require that the applicant have a compelling reason to work in a particular department and with a particular faculty member at the university the applicant wishes to attend.

Selection Criteria

  • Minimum GPA 3.7.
  • Demonstrated creative leadership.
  • Application to universities other than Oxford and Cambridge especially welcome.
  • Clear sense of where and why student would like to study.

Nature of the Award

  • University fees, living expenses, books, and thesis grants.
  • Research and travel grants.
  • Contribution towards support of dependent spouse, approx. £20,0000/year.

  • US Citizens with BA/BS

Competitiveness

Extremely competitive, approx. 40 Marshall scholars are selected each year.

Application Process/Deadline

Online application must be submitted and authorized by Glenn Holland. An endorsement by President, Provost, or Academic Dean is required. All materials are subject to internal deadlines set by Allegheny College; the deadline for submission to the Marshall Foundation is October 4th.
