Academic Commons

The Academic Commons is the central location on campus for student study and collaboration in which students can access the resources they need to thrive at Allegheny and beyond, including coursework, research, academic concerns, career planning, community engagement, international study, and more.

  • The Allegheny Gateway provides opportunities for students to study, live and work abroad; encounter diverse peoples and viewpoints; get involved in defining and addressing real-world problems and challenges; engage in collaborative projects with other students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community partners; and articulate how their Allegheny experiences have prepared them for careers and graduate/professional studies after they leave college.
  • The Maytum Learning Commons draws together a variety of academic support services to create a “one-stop shop” for students. Learning Commons’ professional staff arrange accommodations for students with disabilities; consult with students on study skills such as time management, effective reading, and test taking; coordinate new student orientation; and support the academic advising program. Peer consultants assist students with writing, public speaking, and study in a variety of academic subjects.
  • The Pelletier Library staff provides expert, individualized assistance to help students extend their research skills. Students can develop their ability to identify, evaluate and obtain the information required to meet their academic and experiential learning goals. Library materials are immediately available in print and electronic formats, and extend back to the 15th century. Resources not in the library are obtained on loan from universities around the country.
