Purpose: To connect and serve as a social platform for first-generation college students and/or low-income students. It shall serve as a catalyst for bringing together these students in need of support and allow for communication for those of similar life experiences and create a comfortable environment for them to share these experiences. The club will focus on purposeful conversation to build and strengthen relationships, to provide support through the transition into college and with financial and other resources for students, and to facilitate activities for students that may have otherwise been financially restrictive.
FiGLI will also serve as an environment where first-generation/low-income students can receive and provide mentorship and can practice important networking skills by connecting with Allegheny faculty, staff, and alumni who were also first-generation/low-income.
