Meet the Writing Consultants

Allegheny’s writing consultants are a diverse, multidisciplinary group of undergraduates with rich interests and a shared passion for working with other writers. We look forward to getting to know you and your writing in the Maytum Center for Student Success.

Fall 2023 Lead Consultants

Olivia Monroe is a junior from Charlotte, North Carolina. She is an English major with minors in Education Studies and Music Theory. On campus, she is involved with the Wind Symphony and Students for Environmental Action, and you can catch her broadcasting on WARC 90.3 FM. In her free time, she enjoys reading, spending time outdoors, and making music with her friends.
Becky Pechmann is a senior from western North Carolina. She is majoring in Spanish and minoring in math and education studies. She enjoys being a writing consultant because she loves writing and working with others. On campus, she is a community-based learning advocate and the vice president of Phi Sigma Iota (the international foreign language honor society). She also works with Allegheny’s office of Foundation and Corporate Relations. In her free time, she enjoys reading, hiking, and cooking.

Fall 2023 Writing Consultants

Katie Wagner is a senior who grew up mostly in Southern California. She decided to become a Writing Consultant because it built upon previous experience informally tutoring her siblings, and formally holding tutoring positions in high school. In her opinion, helping people through tutoring is one of the best ways to connect with others. On campus, she is also a GFC volunteer, ASG senator, and a sister of ADPi. She is an English major with an Education Studies Minor.
Lirona Wainer-Yaffeis a senior majoring in English and minoring is psychology and political science. On campus, she is involved with Orchesis, The Allegheny Review, and Allegheny Hillel. She is also the Prose Editor for Overkill, and the junior representative of the English department. In her free time, she enjoys reading, playing the piano, and salsa dancing.
Luna Hammer is a junior from Erie, Pennsylvania. She is an Environmental Science & Sustainability major with an English minor. On campus, she is a board member of SEA, a staff member of the ESS Newsletter, a GFC volunteer, and a general member of ICA, Food Foragers, and AGES. In her free time, she enjoys watching movies, playing video games, and hiking.
Desmond Corrado is a junior from Crafton, PA. He is majoring in Political Science with double minors in History and Spanish. In addition to being a writing consultant, Desmond is a member of the cross country and track & field teams and volunteers at GFC. In his free time, he likes to sleep, read, and listen to music.
Sophia Mita is a junior from Cleveland Heights, Ohio. She is studying biology with a minor in environmental writing. Sophia is on the Allegheny women’s tennis team, as well as a violinist in the Civic Symphony. She enjoys spending free time with friends and family.
Cassie Skweres is a senior from Pittsburgh, PA. She is majoring in History and minoring in Women’s Gender and Sexuality Studies. On campus, she serves as the Corresponding Secretary for Orchesis Dance Company and as the Vice President for Phi Alpha Theta History Honors Society. In her free time, Cassie likes to read, listen to music, and go to the movies.
Evelyn Griffith is a senior majoring in Creative Writing and minoring in Music Performance and Computer Science. She decided to become a writing consultant because she loves teaching and helping others with writing across different disciplines. When she’s not working a shift, Evelyn can be found in the Music department singing with the choirs or preparing for her senior recital!
Nickel Spartz is a sophomore majoring in Biochemistry and Spanish while also pursuing a Theatre minor. They chose to be a writing consultant after their own positive experiences with the writers in the success center. He is passionate about writing and will spend his free time working on creative projects he has on the side. Along with his writing consultant work, Nickel is on the board of GFC and Orchesis Dance Company, and participates regularly in Playshop Theatre Productions.
Peyton Bender is a sophomore. She plans to major in English with a focus in Creative Writing and minor in Behavioral Neuroscience. Outside of consulting, she volunteers at GFC, acts as an editor of The Allegheny Review, is a sister of Alpha Delta Pi, and is a member of the Outing Club. In her free time, she enjoys reading and writing poetry, eating ice cream, drinking coffee, and boxing.
Sabrina Rodriguez is a Junior double majoring in Computer Science and Political Science. She decided to join the Writing Consulting Center after realizing what a great opportunity it is to help the Allegheny community with their writing skills and build new connections with students on campus. Alongside her participation in the writing center, Sabrina is also on the tennis team and on the board of Association of Caribbean Students (ACS).
Alyssa Klim is a sophomore majoring in Environmental Science, with her minor in English. She decided to join the Writing Consultants because of her drive to help students realize their potential as writers. She enjoys helping others feel confident in their writing. Alyssa is also involved with the Bird Club, Women’s Ensemble, and the Lambda Sigma honor society, as their secretary, on campus.
