Amusement Parks
Wild Water Kingdom
Located in Aurora, Ohio, approximately 90 minutes west of campus. Six Flags (formerly known as Geauga Lake) and the former SeaWorld Ohio have united to create America’s newest entertainment destination. Experience wild life and wild rides at this 750-acre world-class thrill park, water park and sealife park.
Conneaut Lake Park
15 miles west of the Allegheny campus. It features the historic wooden roller coaster “The Blue Streak,” a water park, the Hotel Conneaut, and many rides and games.
Cedar Point
Three hours west of campus in Sandusky, Ohio. This park boasts more roller coasters than “any place on the planet.”
Waldameer Park and Water World
In Erie, Pa., approximately 35 miles north of the Allegheny campus. This family-fun complex combines a beautiful amusement park with one of the greatest water parks in the entire country. Offers more than 75 rides, slides, and attractions.
Kennywood Park and Sandcastle Water Park
In suburban Pittsburgh, approximately 90 miles south of the Allegheny campus. If you like classic coasters and water rides, these parks are for you!

Historical Sites
Baldwin-Reynolds House Museum
Just a few blocks from campus; operated by the Crawford County Historical Society. Open Wednesday through Sunday starting at noon. Guided tours are available every hour, with the last tour beginning at 3:30 p.m.

Old Fort Niagara
Located 2.5 hours from campus. A registered National Historic Landmark located in Youngstown, N.Y. More than 300 years of history just minutes from Niagara Falls, the fort marks the site of historic battles, sieges, trading and conquest.
Meadville Market House
Built in 1870, Meadville’s Market House has provided a location for farmers to sell their fresh produce for more than 100 years. Located in downtown Meadville.
The Riverside Inn

Senator John Heinz Pittsburgh Regional History Center
Offered in association with the Smithsonian Institute and the Historical Society of Western Pennsylvania. Discover the uniqueness of the Golden Triangle. Offers group and personal tours, special collections and information for educators.
Outdoor Recreation
Allegheny National Forest
More than 500,000 acres within one hour of campus. Camping, biking, canoeing/kayaking, hiking, fishing and lots of other cool stuff!
Erie National Wildlife Refuge
Seven miles from the Allegheny campus. The preserve, which features a nature center, is a great place for hiking and bird watching. Call (814) 789-3585.
Ernst Bike Trail/French Creek Rails-to-Trails
Access to the trail is just three miles from campus on Mercer Pike. The trail is easy to moderate (few hills), and it has great views of the French Creek waterway.
Woodcock Lake and Recreation Area
6 miles north of campus. With more than 300 acres, this is great place to take a picnic lunch or traverse a nature trail. Camp sites are also available in adjacent Colonel Crawford Park.
Nature Tourism in Northwest Pennsylvania

Golf
There are dozens of local golf courses in the area. Favorites include Hailwood, Riverside, Venango, Whispering Pines and Oakland Beach. Reasonable rates.
Presque Isle Peninsula State Park
Approximately 35 miles north of campus. There are seven miles of beaches on Lake Erie, an 11-mile paved walking/biking/skating trail, and boating on the bay.
Pymatuning Lake State Park and Dam
20 miles west of campus. Fishing, boating and camping are popular summer activities at this site that straddles the Pennsylvania and Ohio border.
Niagara Falls
Two and one-half hours north of campus.
Shopping
In addition to the following stores, Meadville features a variety of gift shops in its downtown district as well as shopping centers on the outskirts of town.
Campbells Pottery
Located 20 minutes from campus in Cambridge Springs, Pa. Features the pottery of Bill Campbell. Across the country, his porcelain is admired for its spectacular color and elegant, crisp forms.
Meadville Market House
Just a few blocks from campus, this building has been a Meadville landmark since 1870. Fresh produce and local crafts are featured.
Millcreek Mall
Located 30 miles north of campus. Many restaurants can be found in and around the mall, including Outback Steakhouse, Max & Erma’s, Red Lobster, Olive Garden, Red River Roadhouse, Fox and Hound, Smokey Bones BBQ, Coldstone Creamery, Aoyama Japanese Steak House and more.
Premium Outlets
Located 30 minutes south of campus in Grove City, Pa. With more than 140 stores, Premium Outlets of Grove City is one of the largest outlet centers in the U.S. Nestled in the countryside like a village, its architecture suggests an elegant, rural main street and creates a pleasant shopping environment.
Shops at Volant
Forty minutes south of campus, on Route 208 (10 minutes from I-79 and I-80). Unique shopping in Amish Country.
Station Square
Observe a turn-of-the-century railroad station that has been converted into a unique shopping and dining area right on the riverfront in the heart of Pittsburgh. Located 90 minutes from campus.

Baseball
Erie SeaWolves ~ The AA affiliate of the Anaheim Angels. Home games are played at Jerry Uht Park in Erie, Pa., located 35 miles north of campus.
Cleveland Indians ~ Home games are played at Jacobs Field in Cleveland, Ohio, located 100 miles west of campus.
Pittsburgh Pirates ~ Starting in 2001, home games are played at the new PNC Park in Pittsburgh, Pa., located 90 miles south of campus. We recommend dinner on the Gateway Clipper fleet before the game.
Basketball
Cleveland Caveliers ~ Home games are played in Gund Arena in Cleveland, Ohio, located 100 miles west of campus.
Football
Buffalo Bills ~ Home games are played in the Ralph Wilson Stadium, located two hours northeast of campus. The team also hosts the Buffalo Bills Experience, an interactive tailgate party, at the Fieldhouse prior to each home game.
Cleveland Browns ~ Home games are played in the Cleveland Browns Stadium in Cleveland, Ohio. The stadium was built on the former ground of the city’s Municipal Stadium.
Pittsburgh Steelers ~ Home games are played at Heinz Field, 90 minutes from campus. The stadium opened in 2001.
Hockey
Erie Otters ~ Part of the Ontario Hockey League, operated under the guidelines of the Canadian Hockey League. Home games are played at Tullio Arena in Erie, Pa.
Buffalo Sabres ~ Home games are played at the HSBC Arena, a multi-faceted facility located on Buffalo’s waterfront.
Pittsburgh Penguins ~ Home games are played at the Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh, Pa.

Pittsburgh Riverhounds ~ Professional outdoor soccer team. Inaugural season in 1999.
