Unusual Combinations: Soft-Serve Ice Cream Connoisseur / Duct Tape Devotee / THz Spectroscopist

Rowan is a 2017 graduate of Carleton College, where she forged her own unusual combination of a Chemistry major and a Medieval & Renaissance Studies minor. As a student, she also was involved with a wide range of activities, including a cappella, folksinging, student theatre, tour guiding (of course), and tutoring. Ever a softy for a good working group, she also served on the Carleton Student Association Senate and numerous committees, including Residential Life, Alumni Relations, and Green Dot (power-based personal violence prevention).

When not in meetings, Rowan can be found with her nose in a good book (probably a mystery novel). She also enjoys arts and crafts projects, listening to music, baking, and of course anything and everything Harry Potter.

Tips for Future Allegheny Students

• For students in the application process, Rowan’s best advice is to relax. You’re on the Allegheny website so clearly you already have good taste; just try to figure out what you’re looking for (big, small, rural, urban) and enjoy the exploration.
• For students starting at Allegheny, the best advice Rowan can offer is to get to know your professors! This is a unique opportunity to engage with them in and outside of the classroom. They can guide you as you figure out future plans and teach you through research and discussion. All you have to do is engage.
