Hello! My name is Taylor Hoose, and I am a senior here at Allegheny College. This scholarship has made it possible for me to return to school and be able to engage in various volunteer-oriented positions that have contributed greatly to my studies and world-views.
I am a double major in Environmental Studies and Global Health. A year ago I spent a semester in Costa Rica, where I had the most invigorating learning experiences of my life. My interests in sustainable agriculture flourished, and engaging with the beautiful culture and environment solidified my desire and showed me how truly important it is to learn through new experiences. Upon returning to Allegheny, I was able to work as an intern at two sites. First I worked at a local foods market and then a small-scale diverse organic farm. These experiences contributed to my passion for working in sustainable agriculture and led me to my summer job working under an Allegheny alum in my hometown for the Wegmans Organic Farm leading a team working in greenhouses with a variety of crops. As a senior I am beginning my comp (thesis) on occupational health among women farmers and cannot wait to see where it takes me.
On campus I am a part of the Students for Environmental Action Club, I serve as fellowship chair for APO (a national service fraternity), and I attempt to engage with the Meadville community by volunteering at the local soup kitchen. Once again, I cannot thank you enough for helping me make this next step of my life possible. The support is greatly appreciated, and I am so thankful for all that your scholarship does for Allegheny and its college students.
