Harvard Summer Venture in Management

Summer Venture in Management is a one-week residential educational program for rising college seniors designed to increase diversity and opportunity in business education.  According to Career Education Director, Jim Fitch, “Harvard Business School covers all educational expenses, including room and board.”

Chatham Financial Excel Boot Camp

When: January 3-4, Kennett Square, PA  (outside Philadelphia)

What: The Excel Boot Camp will run from January 3rd to 4th and is open to undergraduate students. The event will entail a full day of instruction from Wall Street Prep, a Chatham mixer in the evening, and a relevant case-study application on the second day of the event. Chatham has run this event for the past three years and has received excellent feedback that the course is extremely beneficial to students regardless of their area of study.

Registration is open and students are encouraged to apply now, as space is first-come, first serve and requires the completion of a prerequisite course prior to admittance.

The Economics Department can provide funding for all expenses for this experience for a limited number of students.  First apply to the Boot Camp, if you are accepted into their program, email Beth Ryan your resume and academic transcript  by December 7, 2018.

Merrill Lynch Summer Internship

Merrill Lynch is offering a summer internship to Allegheny students doing research on public companies and providing other research services for asset managers and investment advisers at their Pittsburgh-based office. An economics major who has taken macroeconomics, statistics or corporate finance will be the preferred candidate for these positions.

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program is a nationwide IRS program designed to help low and moderate income taxpayers complete annual tax returns at no cost.

Meadville VITA (Econ 501) is being offered in spring 2019 and is a 4 credit internship for students in the course.  Students will receive training in preparing income taxes and using the IRS software prior to the tax season, then for 10 weeks Feb – Apr, students will work 5 to 6 hours preparing taxes for low and middle income residents in our community.
