Syracuse University Maxwell School in Public Administration and International Affairs

What: Megan Begert, Enrollment Manager for the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs will be on campus to discuss their graduate program. The Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs is Syracuse University’s home for innovative, interdisciplinary teaching and research across the social sciences, public policy, public administration, and international relations.

Lunchtime Learning: “Business Law & Ethics: The Spirit and the Letter” with Michael Young ’78

When: Thursday, January 31 | 12:15 – 1:15 pm

Where: Quigley Hall Henderson Auditorium

What: Michael Young ’78, Partner, Wilkie Farr & Gallagher LLP, will present a high level overview of business law and how companies, some better than other, implement it. Mr. Young will share his views on business ethics – important information for students about to enter careers in business and economics.

Carnegie Mellon University Summer Security Intensive Fellowship

As our world becomes increasingly digitized, the privacy, intellectual property, and fraud risks continue to grow. These cyber threats are highly relevant to all sectors of the economy, which is driving a major talent shortage for the information security industry. Our Summer Security Intensive will begin to prepare its participants for a career in this high-growth field.

IT Lab: Summer Security Intensive (SSI) is a paid seven-week summer fellowship where participants:

  • Study with the world’s leading security, analytics, and policy researchers, including the CERT division of the Software Engineering Institute
  • Take coursework in security analytics and policy
  • Apply the knowledge, skills, and abilities gained through experiential learning to improve the cybersecurity posture for local organizations

SSI is a fellowship program for rising college seniors. This program is designed for U.S. citizens and permanent residents interested in pursuing graduate degrees and careers in the information security sector.

Students who complete SSI and are later admitted to a master’s program at Heinz College will be eligible to receive a scholarship of at least 50% of tuition.

Priority Application Deadline: February 1, 2019 (receive admission decision by mid-February)
Final Application Deadline: April 1, 2019 (receive admission decision by May 1)
Dates: June 13, 2019 to August 3, 2019
Financial Support: Heinz College will cover costs of participation in the IT Lab program. This includes the costs of housing, meals, tuition, books, supplies, social functions, travel expens­es to and from Pittsburgh (within the United States) AND a $1,500 stipend.

Eastern Virginia Medical School Summer Scholars Program

The Summer Scholars Program is a mentored research internship offered by EVMS Pediatrics at Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters in Norfolk, Virginia. The competitive 11-week program is open to college seniors (rising or graduating) and first- or second-year graduate or medical students who are exploring potential careers in medical, biomedical, public health or behavioral research.

Students chosen for the program will conduct a preselected research project, from start to finish, and present their project outcomes to the scientific community. Students are listed as co-investigators on their projects, which are frequently published and presented on the national level. This summer experience includes formal classroom training and personalized application in research design, implementation and publication and can greatly benefit those considering a career in research.

Summer internship with the U.S. Treasury

This is a paid summer internship with the U.S. Treasury, Office of the Comptroller of the Currency.  Students must apply through USAJOBS on February 5, 2019. Interested students should create an account on USAJOBS now and create their application materials so that they are ready to submit.

ECE at Florida International University REU Site 2019 Summer Program

The Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering (ECE) at Florida
International University (FIU) invites undergraduate students to apply
its REU Site 2019 Summer program: “Security of Smart Things”.
The program will run from May 28, 2019 to July 26, 2019 at FIU Campus in Miami, FL.

This is a great opportunity for undergraduate students (sophomores,
juniors, non-graduating seniors) to engage in hands-on research
activity under the supervision of a faculty mentor or a postdoctoral
fellow in the ECE Department throughout the summer.
