Happy Holidays Gators!

Happy Friday and Happy Holidays, Gators!

We hope that as you prepare to enjoy your winter break, you are safe, healthy, and feeling loved by those near and far from you. We know we surely miss you and look forward to reuniting in the Spring of 2021!

As we prepare to enjoy our break and loved ones, we want to make sure you are aware that our office’s valuable and meaningful resources are still virtually available to you. Although the college, thus our office, will be closed beginning Dec. 21, 2020, through Jan. 3, 2021, students still have 24/7 access to career-building resources. Students are highly encouraged to remain proactive on Handshake and utilize our Career Center page that houses our “Resource Library” which is full of supportive documents and articles such as “Developing Professional Documents,” “GRE/LSAT/GMAT Test Prep,” “Job and Internship Resources” and more! Our Career Education Page on the College website and our social media pages are other great avenues to use as well, especially in identifying alumni and other network connections. Should students need to meet with a counselor to discuss their career-building endeavors in more depth, they will need to schedule an appointment via Handshake once we open on Jan 4, 2021. There is a graphic attached below instructing students on how to go about scheduling one.

If a student does not have a handshake account, they can sign up using their Allegheny email at www.joinhandshake.com!

Although this year has presented many challenges and uncertainties, one thing we are sure of is that we belong to a dedicated community full of passionate students and employees who show up for one another in meaningful ways – We look forward to continuing this in 2021 with you all. Until then, take care and be well.

GO GATORS!

What: College Connector Days is a program promoting collaboration between the regional colleges that turn out over 5000 graduates annually and the local businesses in the Mercer, Lawrence, Venango, Mahoning, Trumbull, and surrounding counties eager to hire our regional students. It is a great way for students attending our superb regional Universities to connect, communicate and collaborate with local businesses to understand the employment needs in the professional ranks of their organizations.

Allegheny Career Education will provide transportation to the first nine (9) students who sign up – check with Rhonda to verify the size of the van. We’ll need to subtract two of the available seats to accommodate Gateway representatives.

Study Away & Internship Semester Experience

What: At the Philadelphia Center you can explore your post-graduate interests with a faculty guided internship experience with over 800 companies and organizations. The Philadelphia Center is an Allegheny sponsored study away program, so you will have little additional cost from your usual semester costs at Allegheny. You will also add the Philadelphia Center alumni network to your Allegheny network and have a great experience in the City of Brotherly Love.  This is a great program for students who want to explore a particular interest and gain experience, as well as for international students. The Davies Program Is Hiring!

Become a Davies Leader and participate in a wide variety of project areas – these are paid positions. Davies Leaders work 8 to 10 hours a week of compensated service with a local agency completing a site-specific project to enhance both student and agency goals. The Davies Program is looking for students who are good communicators, driven, and most importantly, passionate. This is a work-study/campus employment job and looks great on your resume.

If you are interested in hearing more about the projects or to apply, please contact Bethany Cocchi (bcocchi@allegheny.edu). This program is part of the Civic Engagement office located in the Allegheny Gateway.
