CHAPS:Crawford County Mental Health Awareness Program

Crawford County Mental Health Awareness Program (CHAPS) is a non-profit, consumer-driven organization that was founded in 1988. From day one, CHAPS has been committed to the mission of supporting consumers of mental health services, advocating for the improvement of local mental health services, and encouraging and enhancing the formation of a consumer self-help network in Crawford County.

National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Support Groups

The NAMI Care Peer Support Group is intended for people with mental illness. This group meets every Monday at CHAPS from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

The NAMI Family Support Group is for the families and friends of people with mental illness. This group meets on the first Tuesday of every month at CHAPS from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The NAMI Family-to-Family Education Program is a twelve-week program, meeting once per week, led by trained family members, and is geared toward assisting families and friends with understanding, insight, and empowerment for individuals with mental illness. The meeting site is announced prior to the start of each session.

The NAMI Peer-to-Peer Education Program is a nine-week education program, led by trained, peer facilitators and is geared toward assisting individuals to prevent relapse and fight the stigma associated with mental illness.

Crawford County Suicide Task Force
The Crawford County Suicide Task Force is committed to helping children, teens and adults at risk for suicide, as well as families and communities affected by suicide, through education, advocacy and support.

Survivors of Suicide – Bereavement Support Group is for those who have experienced loss by suicide. It is open-ended, guided by the needs of the group, and new members are welcome to join at any time. The facilitator is a peer who has experienced loss by suicide and wants to help others cope with the loss. The group meets on the second Tuesday of every month from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. located at Active Aging (inside the Lew Davies Community Center) 1034 Park Ave.
