Cortney Harms ’08

Fall 2007-Spring 2008 Davies Leader

“Chamber Chatter”
Meadville Area Chamber of Commerce

The mission of the Meadville Area Chamber of Commerce is to serve the community in order to facilitate its existence and growth. The Chamber works collectively for the community in the areas of economic, social, educational, and political development in order to enhance the overall quality of life. Cortney has spent the past year working with the Chamber to facilitate cohesion amongst its members and to keep these members informed and excited about the Chamber and all the benefits Chamber membership has to offer. She has participated in recruiting new members, planning member events, and the production of the monthly Chamber newsletter, Chamber Chatter.

Cortney’s work at the Chamber is motivated by the opportunity to work closely with community members and small business owners in the area. Working at the Chamber has been instrumental in helping her connect with and feel a part of the Meadville community outside of the College. Her work directly impacts small businesses in the Meadville area; particularly the relationships between members of the Chamber. The Davies Leaders program has provided her with hands-on experience in a real non-profit work environment.

Cortney will graduate from Allegheny College in May 2008 with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Arts and Political Science. She is originally from Fredonia, New York, and plans to pursue a career in publishing upon graduation this May.
