Elise Swanekamp ’12

Fall 2008 – Spring 2009 Davies Leader

“Project O.N.E.”
Center for Economic and Environmental Development (CEED)

Allegheny College’s Center for Economic and Environmental Development engages students, faculty and the community in creating innovative approaches to environmental stewardship, environmental education and regional revitalization.

In the Spring of 2009, her first semester as a Davies Leader, Elise became part of an organizational committee for Project O.N.E (Offering Nutrition to Everyone). Elise helped to support the program and worked with Amara Geffen, CEED Director. Elise is continuing the work of Erin Sweeney, Project O.N.E.’s Fall ’08 Davies Leader, while Erin is studing abroad for a semester. Elise’s position is necessary to make sure the program continues to progress in building community relationships and support for a common cause. Project O.N.E. hopes to facilitate cooperation among local producers, local markets and consumers to support a diverse and healthy food network. Elise is working with many community partners and is evaluating the need in the community.

Elise is from West Seneca, NY. She is a freshman at Allegheny College and has already been involved in Meadville community service efforts. Elise has volunteered at The Vines organic farm, participated in Market House events, and familiarized herself with the community she is now part of. Elise has also volunteered at Grounds For Change and the American Red Cross. Elise is very active in political movements and activies on campus, such as College Democrats and Allegheny for Obama. Elise has been a very enthusiastic leader thus far. She hopes to continue as a Summer Davies in 2009.
