“Project O.N.E. – Offering Nutrition to Everyone”
Meadville Market House

Built in 1871 and renovated in 1970, the Market House now serves not only its original purpose as a city market, but also as a Grille and Restaurant, and a meeting place for many community members. Always filled with activity, the Market House is found in the center of Meadville and provides many residences with local foods and baked goods during a weekly farmers market. There are a variety of vendors inside the Market House who sell their art, crafts and local, wholesome foods and food products.

After spending last spring abroad in Ecuador, Erin returned to campus to work as a Summer Davies at the Market House. Erin has continued her summer work this fall. She works with Market Master Alice Sjolander and is in charge of the much of the programs for Project O.N.E, including nutrition outreach through classes at the Northwest Physicians Association and production of a local, wholesome foods cookbook.

By definition of its mission, Project O.N.E. is “an evolving community collaboration dedicated to meeting the nutritional needs of residents in the greater Meadville area. Project O.N.E. aims to bring partner organizations together under one umbrella, while providing information about the availability and benefits of local foods.” For more information on Project O.N.E., please contact Erin at sweenee@allegheny.edu or the Market Master at asjoland@zomminternet.net

Erin is from Geneseo, NY. She is a senior at Allegheny College. She has self-designed her major and titled it Community Empowerment. Erin is minoring in Spanish. She has studied off-campus twice through the ACCEL office, the first time in DC through the Transforming Communities program, and the second time in Ecuador. Erin hopes to travel and work with community development programs in Third World countries after she graduates.
