“Building the Meadville Council on the Arts”
Meadville Council on the Arts

The Meadville Council on the Arts is a small, multipurpose non-profit agency that reaches out to children and adults interested in the world of Art. The first main project Brandon completed was the MCA Taste of the Arts Outreach Program, which coordinated nine different artists with nine different senior centers. In addition, Brandon expanded MCA advertising by creating various posters and flyers for gallery exhibitions to increase awareness of the Meadville Council on the Arts.

Brandon feels that working at the MCA “really opened my eyes to the other areas of Meadville apart from Allegheny College. I did not realize how closely many of the smaller businesses were networked together…an open network of friends and business partners thrive in the Meadville area, whether it be simple ways of sharing window space for advertising or splitting postage by creating a dual poster. This internship has given me a great hands-on experience working with small, non-profit organizations. I have increased my computer skills and have also learned many tricks of the trade dealing with daily office practices.”

Brandon Heckman is scheduled to graduate from Allegheny College in May of 2008 with a major in Economics and minor in Communications. Originally from Mars, Pennsylvania Brandon enjoys playing guitar on the beaches of Van Buren Point, New York.
