Erin Sweeney ’10

Summer 2009 Davies Leader

“Project O.N.E. – Offering Nutrition to Everyone”
Meadville Market House

Built in 1871 and renovated in 1970, the Market House now serves not only its original purpose as a city market, but also as a Grille and Restaurant, and a meeting place for many community members. Always filled with activity, the Market House is found in the center of Meadville and provides many residences with local foods and baked goods during a weekly farmers market. The Cookie Lady and The Market Grille are only two of the many shops in The Market House.

Returning to the Davies Program after a semester abroad in Ecuador, Erin will continue her community service work with Project O.N.E. while working at The Market House as a Summer Davies Leader. She will be working with Market Master Alice Sjolander and will be in charge of much of the work to be done for Project O.N.E.

Project O.N.E. is an evolving community collaboration dedicated to meeting the nutritional needs of residents in the greater Meadville area. Project O.N.E. aims to bring partner organizations together under one umbrella, while providing information about the availability and benefits of local foods. Erin will assist the Market House with their traditional Summer’s Bounty program, which offers local foods baskets to the community and a reduced rate to community seniors. Erin will also be a great help and resources for other ways in which the partners of Project O.N.E. hope for the program to ‘grow.’

Erin is from Geneseo, NY. She is a rising senior at Allegheny College. She has self-designed her major and titled it Community Empowerment. Erin is minoring in Spanish.
