New and Improved

We are excited to announce we changed our department name from the Department of Environmental Science/Studies to the Department of Environmental Science and Sustainability. Our updated name, along with a restructuring of the major’s requirements, best reflects the preparation our students receive for future careers in environmental science, studies, and sustainability.

The Changes:

  • On July 1, 2018 the Department of Environmental Science/Studies is being renamed the Department of Environmental Science and Sustainability.
  • Students will now major in Environmental Science and Sustainability and will graduate with either a B.A. or a B.S. They will choose their degree in consultation with their academic advisor. Previously, students chose to major in either Environmental Science or Environmental Studies.
  • Course requirements for the major changed slightly to allow more courses taught by other departments to count towards the major. As a department, we have long recognized the interdisciplinary nature of the environmental science and sustainability field and feel it is imperative for students to connect their environmental science course work to other disciplines.
  • The changes apply for students matriculating in Fall 2018.

Some Things Never Change:

Our faculty is committed to equipping student not only with technical skills they can immediately apply outside of the classroom, but with the ability to continually adapt and learn in the constantly evolving field of environmental science.
