Global Citizenship Conference

An Academic Conference on the Nature of Citizenship in a Global World

Allegheny College will host a two-day conference on global citizenship. This event will bring together scholars and students concerned with investigating the future of citizenship in a world which is becoming ever more connected while racked by strife and inequity. The event consists of two main components—four plenary presentations and an undergraduate conference.

Friday, March 11

Keynote addresses will be given by four eminent philosophers: J. Baird Callicott, Noelle McAfee, Ladelle McWhorter and Eduardo Mendieta. These four scholars will spend two days on campus, providing ample opportunities for interaction with students and faculty during the conference, over meals, and at informal gatherings and receptions.

Saturday March 12

Undergraduate students are invited to present papers or develop panels that engage the conference topic and, especially, the work of our plenary speakers. The speakers will attend and respond to the undergraduate paper sessions. The conference will culminate in a round-table discussion, with the plenary speakers, of the themes raised at the conference immediately following the conference banquet on Saturday evening.
