Photo by Tito Mazzuchi, Class of 2022. “I took this photo three years ago when I was in Athens, Greece. This is from a restaurant in the downtown area near the Acropolis where people would socialize during all hours of the night. I stayed in Athens for a few nights while I was waiting for a boat to Lesbos, Greece. I was going there to work with ReFOCUS Media Labs, a European NGO, to teach Photo and Video classes for refugees in the Moria Refugee camp.”

It’s a picture of መድኃኔዓለም ቤተክርስትያን (Medhanialem Church), an Ethiopian Orthodox Church, and it’s surrounding landscape. Its the largest cathedral in Ethiopia and the second largest in Africa It’s name roughly translates to savior of the world. I took this picture while vacationing there.”

Photo by Maya King, Class of 2024. “I traveled to New Zealand this past winter to study the culture and attend my uncle’s wedding. I went to a cultural event with the local māori tribe, and this is a photo of the tribe doing and a nice thing cultural ceremony intended to instill fear in neighboring tribes. The men sticking their tongues out are making eye contact with the people they plan on killing in the upcoming battle. I managed to capture the photo as the front man looked me in the eyes. I love this picture and everything it captures.”

The temple that I’m standing in front of is called the Wat Phra That Doi Suthep Temple, also known as the Golden Temple. I was traveling on the weekends, which were like mini-vacations, when I was volunteering for a conservation program to rehabilitate elephants who have existed the tourism industry.”

I spent as much time photographing the ravens and crows as the stones themselves. We traveled through Ireland, Scotland, Wales, London, and Paris. This was my Sophomore year, 2018.”

The photo is at Bondi Beach and the surfers in the photo are protesting oil drilling that could effect the surrounding environment and the rare Blue Whale. Mick Fanning, a world champion surfer, and Simon Baker, an actor, joined many surfers as they paddled out to protest the drilling.”
Photo by Mae Held, Class of 2024. “This photo was taken on a boat while scuba diving at the Great Barrier Reef. The photo was taken on November 24th, 2019 and was the first time that I scuba dived. Ive wanted to be a Marine Biologist ever since I was little and this was the first experience and I did it with my family. We were on a vacation to Australia to visit my brother who was studying abroad while in Law school.”

Photo by Professor Laura Reeck. “I took this picture while I was visiting Mumbai with two Allegheny students after we presented on the Global Citizen Scholars program at a GLCA conference in Pune, India. We were staying in the Chippi Chawl market district; this is the Zakaria Masjid (mosque). It is a street shot that gives a feel for the streets early in the morning, at a very calm time of day. Chippi Chawl is more typically bustling with activity, including vendors, people on foot, taxis, rickshaws, etc.”
