Assistant Dean for Global Education – Maytum Center for Student Success

Allegheny College, a small selective national liberal arts college, invites applications for the position of Assistant Dean for Global Education. The position is a full-time exempt position reporting to the Associate Dean for Student Success. The Maytum Center for Student Success is dedicated to holistic student support and inclusive excellence in accordance with Allegheny College’s Renaissance Vision. The Assistant Dean for Global Education will coordinate all aspects of the Global Education program, including semester study away, summer experiential learning study tours, and international internships. The Assistant Dean will also provide leadership for Global Education, including formulating and implementing a vision for Global Education and campus internationalization. They will co-chair the Study Away and Campus Internationalization Committee. All staff in the Maytum Center for Student Success are responsible, as needed and as their primary duties allow, for responding to academic alerts, answering basic queries about Center resources and services, responding to basic advising and 4-year planning questions, participating on programming, Admissions events, and Allegheny Bound events, and supporting the Class Deans.

The Assistant Dean will collaborate with the Registrar’s Office to manage and perform the transfer evaluation process for domestic and international study away programs, along with independent foreign transcript evaluation. The Assistant Dean will act as a secondary officer responsible for SEVIS compliance and non-academic advising for international students. Specific duties include serving as a designated school official (DSO) for F-1 visa holders and an alternate responsible officer (ARO) for J-visa holders, and advising international students on maintaining compliance with immigration laws and policies. The Assistant Dean must remain eligible at all times, per immigration guidelines, to serve in these capacities, and submit to and pass ongoing background checks as a requirement of this position.

Approximately 4.5% of the current Allegheny College student population are international, and approximately 25% of graduates (pre-COVID) take part in a credit-bearing short- or long-term study away experience.

Qualifications preferred for the position include a Master’s degree and five to seven years of experience in Global Education at a college or university. Previous experience as a dean or director in this area is preferred. Previous experience living/working abroad as well as knowledge of a second language is also preferred, and the successful candidate will possess a demonstrated ability to work effectively with people from different cultures. This position requires a high level of written and oral communication skills; organizational skills; ability to work effectively with faculty, students, alumni, college administrators, and study away providers; ability to work independently; and familiarity with recent and emerging trends in the field of global education. Some domestic and international travel is expected, as is the ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends as needed. A valid driver’s license is also strongly preferred.
