Allegheny College, a small selective national liberal arts college, invites applications for the position of Assistant Dean for Student Leadership and Engagement. The position is a full-time non-exempt position reporting to the Associate Dean for Community Standards and Wellness. The Assistant Dean for Student Leadership and Engagement will lead the team responsible for creating and implementing a comprehensive program for student engagement on campus, including both direct programming as well as building relationships across campus to provide a wide variety of opportunities for students. The Assistant Dean will create and implement a leadership development curriculum across campus. This position will also be a member of the on-call team responsible for crisis and emergency response and will be a member of the Student Life leadership team.
The Assistant Dean for Student Leadership and Engagement will provide supervision and oversight for staffing, budgeting, and programming within Student Leadership and Engagement and will oversee and supervise the operations of the area, including staff coordinators responsible for Fraternity and Sorority Life and campus programming and student Gator Activities Programming (GAP). They will participate in committees including, but not limited to, the Major Events Committee, Allegheny Bound, Opening, Closing, Senior Week, and other Student Life functions.
Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and at least four years of experience in student life or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred. Demonstrated cultural competence in working with students from diverse backgrounds is essential. The successful candidate should possess demonstrated knowledge of Family Education Right and Privacy Act (FERPA) compliance, threat assessment procedures, student development and administration, as well as experience advising student groups (especially Fraternity and Sorority Life). The successful candidate will possess a strong ethic of service, strong written and verbal communication skills, the ability to work collaboratively, and experience with supervision, and professional development. The successful candidate will have the demonstrated ability to remain calm in stressful situations, and to interact effectively with students, parents, administrators, and faculty. Some travel is expected, as is the ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends as needed. A valid driver’s license is also strongly preferred.
