Assistant Director of Human Resources

Allegheny College, a small selective liberal arts college located in northwest Pennsylvania, invites applications for the position of Assistant Director of Human Resources.  This is a full-time exempt administrative position reporting to the Director of Human Resources.

The Assistant Director of Human Resources will be responsible for two primary HR disciplines.  While functioning as a Employee Relations Consultant, this position is responsible for providing advice and counsel to employees and managers on a variety of employee relations topics.  The successful candidate will respond promptly and empathetically to employee concerns and drive appropriate resolution through recommendations and follow-through.  In addition, they will manage complex employee relations issues such as employee complaints, harassment allegations, and work/performance issues while ensuring legal compliance, leveraging employee abilities and managing risk.  Acting as an Employment Specialist, the position will lead the recruiting, onboarding and career development programs for the College.  The successful candidate will partner with campus leaders to post, source and onboard new employees.  They will also coordinate the performance evaluation process for exempt and nonexempt employees and function as the employee training and development lead for the Office of Human Resources.

A successful candidate will have significant technical knowledge and expertise in employee relations with the ability to communicate at all levels tactfully and effectively.  This candidate will be skilled in fostering and developing mutually respectful relationships, achieving consensus among competing interests and fostering a collaborative approach to problem solving.  A Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Management or related field or equivalent work experience is required as is 5+ years of progressively responsible experience in Employee Relations, including conducting workplace investigations.
