Assistant Director of the Counseling and Personal Development Center (CPDC)

Allegheny College, a small selective national liberal arts college, invites applications for the position of Assistant Director of the Counseling and Personal Development Center. The position is a full-time non-exempt position reporting to the Associate Dean for Community Standards and Wellness. The Assistant Director of the Counseling and Personal Development Center will be expected to undertake leadership and clinical duties in a high-paced mental health service organization in higher education. The Counseling and Personal Development Center (CPDC) delivers holistic mental health services to the Allegheny College student campus community through brief individual and group counseling, crisis support, outreach programming, consultation, and coordination of care for mild-moderate mental health and personal development concerns. The Assistant Director will be responsible for day-to-day, vision and mission of the center, strategic planning, budget management, and management of employees. This individual provides professional expertise and consultation across Student Life and the larger campus community regarding trends in mental health affecting students.

In addition to clinical case work, the Assistant Director of the Counseling and Personal Development Center will provide backup to on-call services; approve and monitor budget, expenditures, and contracts for the CPDC office; serve as CPDC representative/liaison on the Student Intervention Team; collaborate with various faculty departments, administrators, staff, organizations, and departments to support students and the college’s strategic goals; and will be responsible for CPDC administrative tasks and role assignments. Clinical supervision of CPDC staff is not currently part of the job description.

Minimum qualifications include a Master’s degree in a related field, at least four years of experience in mental health counseling or a related field, and current licensure in mental health counseling. Demonstrated cultural competence in working with students from diverse backgrounds is essential. The successful candidate should possess demonstrated knowledge of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and Family Education Right and Privacy Act (FERPA) compliance, threat assessment procedures, and local, state, and federal laws applicable to the position. The successful candidate will possess a strong ethic of service, strong written and verbal communication skills, the ability to work collaboratively, and experience with supervision, and professional development. The successful candidate will have the demonstrated ability to remain calm in stressful situations, and to interact effectively with students, parents, administrators, and faculty. The ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends as needed, is expected.
