Assistant Director, Student Leadership & Involvement

Allegheny College, a small selective national liberal arts college, invites applications for the position of Assistant Director, Student Leadership & Involvement.  The position is a full-time exempt position reporting to the Associate Dean for Student Wellness.

As a member of the Division of Student Life, the Assistant Director supports the vision for systematic co-curricular programs, leadership development and risk management in alignment with the academic mission of the College.  The primary responsibility is to advise the Allegheny Student Government, the Gator Activities Programming Board, Late Night Programs and the Kaldron yearbook, in addition to providing general direction and support for the college leadership programs.  The Assistant Director uses a holistic approach to creating co-curricular opportunities that supplement the unique needs of an increasingly diverse student body.  The Assistant Director will encourage students to participate in intellectual, artistic, social, recreational and multicultural activities; to assume campus leadership and governance responsibilities; to develop positive interpersonal relationships and skills within groups; and is responsible for establishing and measuring student learning outcomes achieved through participation in these activities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate for the Assistant Director of Student Leadership & Involvement position will preferably have a master’s degree in a related field with 3+ years’ experience.  Experience in higher education/student affairs, and demonstrated ability to blend the academic and co-curricular components of student life in a residential liberal arts college setting is necessary.    The preferred candidate will have experience advising, mentoring and supporting  student government; advising and supporting student programming boards; developing and managing student leadership programs; coordinating and evaluating student social life with an emphasis on late night, and co-coordinating major events including Homecoming, Springfest,and major concerts/events. The candidate must also demonstrate a commitment to creating and supporting an inclusive and respectful residential learning community, in addition to demonstrating strong communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.  This position also serves in the on-call rotation as part of the Dean of Students on-call staff.
