Assistant Professor of Environmental Science and Sustainability

The Department of Environmental Science and Sustainability (ESS) at Allegheny College invites applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position beginning August 2019.  Allegheny is uniquely situated to support teaching and research in environmental science and sustainability, with an institutional commitment to sustainable development and carbon neutrality and a nationally recognized department of Environmental Science and Sustainability.  The ESS program has a robust curriculum to support student research, internships, international education, and civic engagement in Pennsylvania and around the nation and world.

The department is particularly interested in candidates with teaching and research expertise in applied environmental problem-solving.  Specific areas of interest include, but are not limited to, sustainable development locally or globally, climate change, the UN SDGs, environmental policy, environmental geography, and ecological economics. Candidates should be invested in interdisciplinary teaching and research in environmental science/studies and demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate education. Teaching load is equivalent to 6 courses per year and will include core courses in the department’s curriculum, upper-level courses in the candidate’s area of expertise, and courses in the college-wide first-year/sophomore seminars.  A Ph.D. in an interdisciplinary field and previous teaching experience is strongly preferred.
