Allegheny College, a small selective national liberal arts college, invites applications for the position of Carpenter with door hardware experience. The position is a full-time non-exempt position reporting to the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor in the Office of Physical Plant. The Physical Plant Department is responsible for the operations and maintenance, renovations, and construction of all buildings, grounds, and utilities of the College. These services are provided to develop and maintain a functional, attractive and safe environment conducive to learning and to support the College’s tradition of excellence. The Department has dedicated, professional staff trained in every principle trade required to provide these services and/or to oversee contracted services that the Department does not directly provide.
Under the general supervision of the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor, the Carpenter will perform duties independently with attention to door and lock hardware, and other duties according to broadly prescribed renovation, repair, and maintenance tasks on building interior and exterior. These tasks will include, but not limited to, repairs to flooring such as carpet tile, LVT,VCT and rubber base, drywall/plaster walls, painting, wood trim work, windows, roofing, doors and lock hardware, toilet partitions, furniture, acoustical ceilings, exterior siding/soffit and fascia, gutters and downspouts, plus misc. snow removal. The Carpenter will be responsible to self-identify work tasks, projects and needed repairs as part of the routine maintenance team. The successful candidate should be self-motivated and knowledgeable in current building codes along with being familiar with ADA and OSHA standards.
High school diploma is required. Trade or technical schooling equivalent to an associate degree required. This individual must have a minimum of five years of experience in the performance of maintenance activities in a commercial setting.
