Allegheny College, a small selective liberal arts college located in northwest Pennsylvania, invites applications for the position of Director of Peak Performance and Fitness. This is a full-time, 12-month, exempt administrative position with a comprehensive benefits package and is a member of the athletics senior administrative team.
Specific duties include but are not limited to: Program design, implementation, and supervision for the College’s 23 intercollegiate teams; teaching proper speed, agility, weight lifting and conditioning methods and techniques; motivating student-athletes to train, condition and perform to their highest potentials; educating student-athletes on nutrition and concerning the dangers inherent to illegal/banned performance enhancing drugs; monitor the weight room, equipment and supervise fitness areas; direct strength and conditioning workouts and classes for all varsity athletic programs; coordinate with the athletic training office on injury prevention and rehab programs; manage facility memberships; oversee student workers; and monitor fitness classes.
The candidate must be a collaborative leader with excellent interpersonal skills, personal initiative and strong communication skills to work with a variety of personalities. The essential functions of this job include demonstrating lifts, techniques, and light cleaning and re-organizing of weight room and other fitness spaces.
A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree (Physical Education, Sports Psychology, Kinesiology, Health Performance, etc.) is preferred with current NSCA or CSCCa certification and first aid/CPR/AED required. Knowledge of internal health initiatives (i.e. nutrition, sports psych) is ideal. Previous significant experience within a collegiate strength and conditioning program as a head or assistant coach, graduate assistant or intern; demonstrated commitment to academic, athletic and drug-free performance success on the parts of student-athletes; ability to multi-task and adhere to a flexible and changing work schedule.
