Allegheny College, a small selective national liberal arts college, invites applications for the position of Financial Aid Advisor. The position is a full-time non-exempt position reporting to the Executive Director of Admissions and Financial Aid but also receives direction from the Associate Director of Financial Aid.
The Financial Aid Advisor will assist in the administration of federal, state and institutional student aid programs for a diverse population of undergraduate students. The Financial Aid Advisor will provide financial aid counseling to students and parents regarding application procedures and eligibility requirements for student aid programs, and assist students and their families with the completion of application forms.
The Financial Aid Advisor will manage and maintain prospective and currently enrolled students’ financial aid files, including correspondence with students and families. Expectations for this position include providing a high level of customer service, maintaining detailed and accurate records, reconciling federal, state and institutional funds to ensure compliance with all regulations, among other responsibilities on the financial aid team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the awarding and distribution on financial aid that may involve heavy regulations. Attention to detail and understanding of financial aid process is required. This position works closely with student employees and some management may be required.
Significant experience in financial aid, knowledge of state and federal regulations, supervisory experience. Required working knowledge of essential software programs or ability to learn new software quickly. Must also have excellent interpersonal and project-management skills, be highly organized, pay attention to detail, and possess strong communication skills with a focus on customer service. Bachelor’s degree and at least 2-3 years of student financial aid experience.
