Allegheny College, a small selective national liberal arts college, invites applications for the position of Grounds Supervisor. This is a full-time, exempt position in the Physical Plant which may require work outside the normal business hours as needed. The position reports to the Associate Director of Physical Plant.
Primary responsibilities will require the qualified individual to provide principal supervision and support for the college grounds and associated work. Under the general supervision of the Associate Director, the Grounds Supervisor will plan, organize and supervise all functions of the campus grounds and related facilities including daily operations, long-term planning, grounds budget, event set-up, safety, energy conservation, sustainability, and oversight of major capital projects and repair as assigned.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must have strong supervisory skills with the ability to schedule, coordinate and direct activities for personnel assigned to him/her. Must have knowledge of equipment operation, arboriculture, landscaping activities and experience in the maintenance of paved and unpaved areas. Must have experience in snow and ice control operations and in the operation of snow removal equipment. This person must demonstrate success in multi-tasking in an extremely busy environment involving multiple customers. This person must have experience in successfully operating within a defined budget.
Associate’s degree required, bachelor’s degree preferred, and a minimum of five years of experience in the supervision of maintenance activities involving paved and unpaved areas.
