Allegheny College, a small selective national liberal arts college, invites applications for the position of InfoDesk Manager. The position is a full-time exempt position reporting to the Director of Public Services in the Office of Library and Information Technology Services (LITS).
We are seeking highly energetic, adaptable, and hospitable candidates to fill a position overseeing the operation and support of the InfoDesk, Allegheny’s first point of contact for library and technology services and questions. The InfoDesk Manager is responsible for supervising, training, and supporting approximately 50 students who work in the department. The successful candidate will value a diverse community; will embody exemplary customer service, organizational, and communication skills; and will be able to help student employees create an inclusive environment at the InfoDesk and achieve similar levels of service excellence. We are looking for cheerful, kind people who will enjoy providing a high-touch service to our students and employees. The InfoDesk Manager must be available to work some on-call and on-site evening and weekend hours during the academic year, and will work typical business hours when classes are not in session.
Qualifications and Educational Requirements: We are seeking a dynamic, multifaceted individual who is easily adaptable and enjoys learning new skills, collaborating with teammates, and tackling complex problems. Excellent interpersonal and listening skills, ability to problem solve and prioritize multiple competing needs, and an eagerness to learn is essential. Candidates with the ability to apply industry best practices through the lens of institutional need and culture are desired.
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree or the development of equivalent skills through professional experience providing technology, library support or service management. Preferred education includes certification or applicable work experience in library science, technology support, or service management. This position requires previous experience supervising staff; previous work with young adults is preferred. A demonstrable ability to motivate and inspire staff is preferred. Other preferred skills include navigation of help ticketing systems, Google Suite applications, Windows 10 and macOS operating systems, and knowledge of library service platforms, particularly Ex Libris’ Alma.
