Life Coach and Academic Support Specialist

Allegheny College, a small selective national liberal arts college, invites applications for the position of Life Coach and Academic Support Specialist. The position is a part-time (24 Hours/Week) non-exempt position reporting to the Director of Student Accessibility Services and Support. The office of Student Accessibility Services and Support provides all student related accommodations and services for students with disabilities at Allegheny.

The successful candidate will work directly with students who identify as having an Autism Spectrum Disorder and/or other relevant disabilities. Responsibilities include assisting students with self-advocacy skills, social behaviors, navigating a campus community, managing academic coursework, study skills/time management, executive functioning, and communication with faculty and staff. The candidate will also work directly with faculty and administrators from other departments, when necessary, to support student learning.

Required qualifications include a bachelor’s degree and experience working with students in an academic setting. Experience working with students on the Autism Spectrum, knowledge of potential accompanying issues such as executive functioning, time management, social skills, transitioning skills, sensory sensitivity, and verbal/nonverbal communication is highly preferred.
