Allegheny College, a small, selective liberal arts college located in northwest Pennsylvania, invites applications for a Programmer/Analyst. This is a full-time administrative position reporting to the Director of Enterprise Services within LITS (Library and Information Technology Services).
The Programmer/Analyst has responsibility for resolving incoming internal requests related to reporting, business process and data management, ranging from simple ticket-based requests to larger college projects involving complex data structures and system integration. An individual in the position assists college departments with meeting business needs by researching requirements, and then determining whether the need is best met through process change, training, or creative use of existing resources, often involving customization, scripting or programming. Primary systems supported will be the Ellucian Colleague SIS/ERP and Entrinsik Informer reporting tool.
Qualifications and Skills:
This position requires excellent problem-solving skills, strong listening and communication skills, and the ability to program on the major systems used by the college. Communication about the work with key collaborators and alignment with expectations at the college is at least as important as the solutions themselves. The ability to relate the complex detail of data and workflow to less technical staff and administration will be key. Allegheny uses Rocket UniData as its primary database platform and reporting database, with some limited engagement with Microsoft SQL. Other databases may be used for niche solutions. The successful candidate will show a proven ability to learn and adapt to different databases and systems. The candidate must have at least a bachelor’s degree. Demonstrated experience in the areas listed here is strongly preferred.
