Allegheny College, a small selective national liberal arts college, invites applications for the position of Systems Administrator. The position is a full-time exempt position reporting to the CIO, within the Information Technology Services department. The ITS department provides technology support and solutions to students, faculty, and staff.
The Systems Administrator manages all aspects of servers including installing and maintaining servers and software, assisting users with server and software support issues, administering enterprise SaaS applications, performing backup and recovery of servers and data, monitoring and maintaining all aspects of server security, availability, and performance, installing and maintaining virtualization infrastructure, creating and updating documentation, and project management.
Minimum qualifications include: Associate’s or vocational / technical school degree along with 1-3 years’ experience. Additionally, the ideal candidate must have the ability to work as part of a collaborative IT team. The Systems Administrator will be the primary Windows systems administrator, so a solid background and understanding of Windows OS, Windows Active Directory, and all other aspects of Windows administration are crucial. Additionally, the ideal candidate should have knowledge of other operating systems, networking, server and storage hardware configuration and maintenance, security (cybersecurity, systems hardening, firewalls, AV/EDR), Google Workspace administration, VMware administration, database administration, backup, redundancy, and system recovery, and system optimization, monitoring, and problem solving skills. The candidate should also commit to documenting practices, procedures, and policies; have strong troubleshooting skills, and strong soft skills (interfacing with other IT team members, faculty, staff, students, vendors, and support partners).
