Third/Fourth Year Class Dean

Allegheny College, a small selective national liberal arts college, invites applications for the new position of Third/Fourth Year Class Dean. The position is a full-time exempt position reporting to the Dean for Student Success and Vice-President for Student Life & Dean of Students. The Class Dean will provide programmatic and individualized holistic support and advising for all third- and fourth-year students; support Career Education and Alumni Engagement to help students prepare for the After Allegheny transition; and advise the Dean for Student Success and Vice-President for Student Life & Dean of Students on matters relating to third- and fourth-year student success. This is a brand new position and an opportunity to help build an exciting program.

Essential Functions

  • Work directly with third- and fourth-year students as a mentor and secondary advisor (in addition to their faculty advisor).
  • In collaboration with faculty advisors, advise and mentor third- and fourth-year students to develop discrete curricular, co-curricular, and personal goals as advocates for their well-being and success.
  • Develop third- and fourth-year students programs that promote and sustain student success; that promote and celebrate a culture inclusive of race, ethnicity, gender, socioeconomic class, ability, religion, and culture; and that promote a sense of community and cohesion among the third- and fourth-year classes.
  • Collaborate and work with campus partners to provide programming for third- and fourth-year first-generation students and students from other marginalized or underrepresented groups.
  • In coordination with the senior leadership team of the Maytum Center for Student Success and other stakeholders, develop and sustain training and professional development activities for academic and other advisors.
  • In coordination with the senior leadership team of the Maytum Center for Student Success and other stakeholders, develop and maintain a comprehensive plan for assessing student outcomes and the success of individual programs.
  • Work collaboratively with Career Education staff to maximize student involvement in vocational discernment opportunities, internship placements, and career preparation and placement efforts.
  • Assist Career Education in tracking all fourth-year students in coordinated effort to achieve 100% employment, grad school, medical school, and law school placements.
  • Work collaboratively with Alumni Engagement to help forge meaningful and helpful connections between students and alumni.
  • Work with Institutional Advancement to understand and model a healthy culture of philanthropy.

Minimum Qualifications

  • M.A. required; doctorate preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of related/applicable work experience required, preferably in higher education, with background in academic advising, teaching, or related field.
  • Must be willing to work during the summer months; weekend and evening work will occasionally be required.
