Summary of Position

The Assistant Director in the Center for Career and Professional Development (CCPD) provides entry-level career coaching and advising for first- and second-year students through one-on-one sessions, workshops, and campus-wide engagement. This role also serves as the CCPD’s marketing coordinator, managing communications, social media, and promotion of programs and outcomes. The Assistant Director oversees online career platforms, ensuring their accessibility and effective use by students, alumni, and campus partners. Additionally, they support pre-health and pre-law initiatives, coordinate events and application processes. Working collaboratively across the College, the Assistant Director plays a key role in advancing a campus-wide career ecosystem.

As the Assistant Director, CCPD, you will:

  • Provide entry level career coaching, advising, career and self-development exercises, and search consultations for students with intentional focus with 1st Year students and student-athletes through one-on-one sessions, workshops, classroom presentations and outreach to various student groups. Work independently and in partnership with CCPD colleagues.
  • Serve as the marketing coordinator for the Center for Career and Professional Development (CCPD), promoting events, opportunities, programs, and student outcomes through social media and Allegheny-specific communication platforms. Liaise with Class Deans, CCPD colleagues, faculty, and student groups to ensure timely and targeted promotion of relevant career engagement opportunities. Collaborate with the College’s marketing and communications team to plan and implement strategic marketing efforts for CCPD events, programs, and services through coordinated campus communications and social media campaigns.
  • Serve as the CCPD’s lead administrator for online career development platforms, overseeing their management, functionality, and daily operations. Support and empower students, alumni, and campus partners by troubleshooting issues and providing guidance to maximize effective use of career tools and technologies. Maintain and update job postings, internships, and career resources to ensure students have access to current and relevant opportunities through Allegheny’s online career platforms.
  • In coordination with the Associate Director for Pre-Professional Advising, support pre-health and pre-law advising, event, and programming planning and facilitation. Oversee the coordination of student application materials. 

Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required and/or Master’s Degree preferred
  • Entry level position, 1-3 years experience preferred
  • Foundational understanding of career development theory and advising practices, particularly as they relate to first-year students and student-athletes in a liberal arts setting. Knowledge of marketing strategies, communication platforms, and best practices for promoting student-facing programs and services. Familiarity with online career development platforms (e.g., Handshake or similar systems) and current trends in digital career resources.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to engage effectively with students, faculty, staff, and external partners through various formats (in-person, written, and digital). Organizational and time management skills with the ability to coordinate multiple programs, events, and administrative tasks simultaneously. Technical proficiency in managing online platforms, creating digital content, and utilizing tools for social media, marketing, and data entry.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a dynamic team environment to support inclusive and student-centered career development initiatives. Ability to design and deliver engaging workshops, presentations, and marketing campaigns tailored to the needs of specific student populations. Ability to troubleshoot user issues and support effective use of digital career tools for students, alumni, and staff.
  • Proficient in Google Suite of products and Social Media
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, Databases, and College Career Platforms preferred

YOUR COMPENSATION 

New hires are typically brought into the organization at a salary between the range minimum and the salary range midpoint depending on qualifications, internal equity, and the budgeted amount for the role.

The expected starting salary range for this position is $48,000 annually. This position is full time, exempt.
