ROLE TITLE: Director of Orientation and Advising Programming

POSITION REPORTS TO: Dean for the Student Experience

Summary of Position

The Director of Orientation and Advising Programming supports the student experience from admissions to graduation in collaboration with Academic Advisors, Class Deans, Coaches, and other colleagues within the student support ecosystem. The Director is primarily responsible for the planning and implementation of orientation programming as well as supporting the academic alert and other intervention measures.

As Director of Orientation and Advising Programming, you will:

  • Orientation: This includes overseeing the Allegheny Bound Student Orientation Program and communication to all entering first-year and transfer students and families; working with the Registrar and other stakeholders to organize and lead First Year Course Registration for new students; and providing leadership and organization for the new student on-boarding experience.
  • Academic Support: Support the coordination and development of holistic, integrated, and collaborative programs supporting student success centering mission and values, spanning the full student life-cycle from application to post-graduation. Oversee the Academic Alert system, including the provision of training and professional development for staff who respond to Academic Alerts. Co-chair the Retention Intervention Team. This may include the necessity of managing difficult conversations with faculty, students, and parents
  • Representing Student Experience and/or Student Success: Serve at the discretion of supervisor of: the Slate for Student Success Team; the Data Governance group; strategic plan working groups; the Advising Leadership Team; hiring search committees; and work closely with Admissions to provide programming and support for enrollment efforts
  • Budgets: Maintain budgets and spending to support the functions of the position.
  • Supervision: Supervise the Manager of Student Success Technology & Communications

  • Bachelor’s degree and or Master’s Degree preferred
  • Exceptional ability to influence and build strong relationships
  • To perform this job successfully, the Director must demonstrate integrity and confidentiality; strong management and leadership skills; detailed knowledge of the curriculum, policies, and practices of Allegheny College; excellent listening and communication skills; strong organizational and interpersonal skills; strong cross-cultural communication skills; the ability and willingness to collaborate productively with diverse groups; the ability to work productively with students, faculty, and parents in a student success role; good technology skills, the ability to learn new technical tools, and the ability to use technology to improve office productivity.

YOUR COMPENSATION

New hires are typically brought into the organization at a salary between the range minimum and the salary range midpoint depending on qualifications, internal equity, and the budgeted amount for the role.

The expected salary for this position is $67,000 annually.
