ROLE TITLE: Systems Administrator 

POSITION REPORTS TO: Chief Information Officer

Summary of Position

The Systems Administrator is responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, and reliable operation of computer systems and servers. This role ensures that all IT systems are functioning efficiently and securely, supporting business operations. The Systems Administrator also provides technical support to users and works closely with other IT staff to resolve issues and implement new technologies.

As the Systems Administrator, you will:

  • Windows Server systems administrator, providing systems analysis, design, development, documentation, creation, testing, and modification for all Windows Server systems
  • Monitor and maintain all aspects of Window server security, availability, and performance.
  • Perform backup and recovery of Windows servers and data (including annual testing)
  • Perform backup and recovery of servers and data (including annual testing)
  • Administer enterprise SaaS applications based on system design specifications
  • Design, install and maintain virtualization infrastructure
  • Assist users with server, software and hardware support issues

Experience and Qualifications

  • Associate degree required, Bachelor’s degree preferred, but will consider years’ experience in higher education and systems administration in lieu of a degree.

Required Knowledge of

  • Windows Operating Systems: In-depth understanding of Windows Server operating systems (2016, 2019, 2022) and Windows desktop operating systems (10, 11), including their architecture, components, and core functionalities.
  • Active Directory and Group Policy: Comprehensive knowledge of Active Directory (AD) infrastructure, including user and group management, domain services, trust relationships, and Group Policy Objects (GPOs).
  • Networking Fundamentals: Strong understanding of networking concepts, including IP addressing, subnetting, DNS, DHCP, routing, and switching, as well as how they integrate with Windows environments.
  • PowerShell and Scripting Languages: Advanced knowledge of PowerShell scripting for automation, system management, and task scheduling, along with familiarity with other scripting languages like Python or Bash.
  • Security Best Practices: Familiarity with security frameworks and best practices, such as patch management, system hardening, user access controls, and threat mitigation strategies specific to Windows environments.
  • Virtualization Technologies: Understanding of virtualization principles and tools, such as Hyper-V and VMware, including the deployment and management of virtual machines (VMs), and the optimization of virtual environments.
  • Performance Monitoring and Optimization: Understanding of tools and techniques for monitoring system performance, analyzing logs, and optimizing system resources to ensure high availability and reliability.
  • Troubleshooting Methodologies: Strong foundation in troubleshooting methodologies for diagnosing and resolving complex issues related to hardware, software, network, and security in a Windows environment.
  • Cloud Integration: Familiarity with cloud platforms like Microsoft Azure and their integration with on-premises Windows environments, including hybrid cloud solutions and cloud-based services.

Required Skills in

  • Managing communications ([email, IM, …]) and connection solutions, including workstation connectivity, local area networks, intranet, and Internet applications.
  • Ensuring the integrity and security of enterprise data on host computers, multiple databases, and during data transfer in accordance to business needs and industry best-practices regarding privacy, security, and regulatory compliance.
  • Managing  end user accounts, permissions, access rights, and storage allocations in accordance with best-practices regarding privacy, security, and regulatory compliance.
  • Performing network and security audits.
  • Anticipating, mitigating, identifying, troubleshooting, and resolving hardware and software problems on servers, and workstations. Escalate incidents as necessary.
  • Practicing network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information.
  • Analyzing system, server, application, network, and input/output device performance.
  • Recommending, scheduling, and performing software and hardware improvements, upgrades, patches, reconfigurations, and/or purchases.
  • Conducting research on emerging products, services, protocols, and standards in support of systems software procurement and development efforts.

YOUR COMPENSATION

New hires are typically brought into the organization at a salary between the range minimum and the salary range midpoint depending on qualifications, internal equity, and the budgeted amount for the role.

This is a non-exempt position and the starting pay rate range for this position is $24.03 hourly.  Compensation will commiserate with years of relevant experience.
