Emerald had her first journalism experience in the News Writing class with Professor Cheryl Hatch. During the course she worked with the Meadville Tribune to publish a story for Veteran’s Day about Sgt. Rob Taylor, an Allegheny alumnus who served in Afghanistan. She has written for the The Campus and participated in an independent study with the Meadville Tribune.
Dan began writing for The Campus during his first year at Allegheny, having previously worked for his high school’s newspaper. He became the Opinions editor of The Campus sophomore year, later becoming editor-in-chief and then managing editor.
As managing editor, Dan led the newspaper staff in the coverage of the 2012 man-hunt that took place in the neighborhoods surrounding Allegheny College. Through the use of Twitter feeds and a police scanner, he and other staff members investigated the whereabouts of alleged fugitive Keith Green. “Tracking Keith Green” won a first-place award in the four-year college category for ongoing news coverage from the Pennsylvania Newspaper Association in April 2013.
Chelsea found the senior comprehensive project a great way to combine her two interests, English and Biology. After learning about local childhood obesity statistics, she undertook a four-part investigative series for the Meadville Tribune.
While working towards her English major with a journalism concentration, she wrote for The Campus and served as a features editor.
