Connecting Game Systems and Other Devices

If you own a PlayStation, Xbox, etc.. you can connect to the wired network. You need the MAC address of your game system to register it. Once you have your MAC address complete a  Web Help Desk ticket.

  • Systems without browsers must be registered by the Network and Support Administrator.
  • Requests to get your game system online can be submitted through Web Help Desk.
    • Log on to Web Help Desk  using your Allegheny username and password.
    • Complete a ticket using the request type Internet, Network, Wireless -> Student Network -> Wired Connection Request.
    • The game system will be registered within two business days after the registration form is received.

Allegheny College understands that, in addition to studying, students need time for recreation. Library and Information Technology Services (LITS) works with the student group known as Legion of Allegheny Gamers (LAG) to make the experience of online gaming at Allegheny enjoyable.

Select your Device: Nintendo DS | PlayStation 4 | PlayStation 3 | Xbox 1 | Xbox 360 | Nintendo Wii | Other Device |
Xbox 1

  • From the Xbox Dashboard, go to My Xbox
  • Select Settings
  • Select Network
  • From the Network Settings tab, select Advanced Settings.
  • At the bottom of this screen you’ll see a heading called Wired MAC Address.
  • Write this down (this is your MAC address) and
  • complete a Web Help Desk Request.
  • After the registration form has been received, your game system will be assigned an IP address within two business days which will allow your game system to connect online for the school year.

PlayStation 4

  • From the PlayStation 4 menu, navigate to the “Settings” Icon
  • From the Settings menu, select System
  • Select System Information
  • The MAC address will be listed on the screen. It will be alphanumeric and have the format xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx.
  • Write down your MAC address and complete a Web Help Desk Request.
  • After the registration form has been received, your game system will be assigned an IP address within two business days which will allow your game system to connect online for the school year.

How to set up your Nintendo Wii (wired adapter)

If you have a web browser for the Nintendo Wii, you can connect to the internet with the web browser and fill out the registration form. If you do not have the web browser, please follow the steps below:

  • Turn on the Wii.
  • From the Wii Menu, select Wii Options. (It is the round button in the lower left corner that says “Wii”.)
  • Select Wii Settings.
  • Scroll to the right to Wii System Settings 2.
  • Select Internet.
  • Select Console Information.
  • Write down the MAC address. It will be alphanumeric and have the format xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx. Then complete a Web Help Desk Request.
  • After the registration form has been received, your game system will be assigned an IP address within two business days which will allow your game system to connect online for the school year.

How to set up other devices

Other devices may also be able to connect, depending on the device. If you are in doubt, please contact the InfoDesk at 814-332-3768.

In many cases you will need to bring the device, power adapter, and any instruction manuals and/or installation CDs to the InfoDesk  to have them configured by the Network and Support Administrator.

Xbox 360

  • Go to the System area of the Xbox Dashboard and select Network Settings.
  • Select Edit Settings.
  • From Additional Settings, select Advanced Settings.
  • At the bottom of this screen you’ll see a heading called Wired MAC Address.
  • Write this down (this is your MAC address) and complete a Web Help Desk Request.
  • After the registration form has been received, your game system will be assigned an IP address within two business days which will allow your game system to connect online for the school year.

How to set up your PlayStation 3

  • Power up the PlayStation 3 without any disc in the drive.
  • Once the PlayStation 3 operating system has loaded, select “Settings.”
  • Once you are in “Settings” select “Network Settings.”
  • When the “Network Settings” list appears, select the first option which is titled “Settings and Connection Status List.”
  • Write down the “MAC Address.” It will be alphanumeric and have the format xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx. Then complete a Web Help Desk Request.
  • After the registration form has been received, your game system will be assigned an IP address within two business days which will allow your game system to connect online for the school year.

Nintendo DS

This system is wireless only and is not able to connect to the Allegheny wireless network. It can connect to some college house networks. Houses on East College and Sherman St are part of the AC-Wireless network and will not be able to connect with this system.

  • First insert a Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection compatible game and access the WFC Setup Utility. Please note that the exact steps to access the setup utility varies by game. However, the setup utility is a standard menu, included with all WFC-compatible games.
  • After accessing the utility, tap “Options,” then “System Information.”
  • The MAC Address and Nintendo WFC ID will be listed on the screen. Unless the game player has successfully connected with Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, the WFC ID will be blank.
  • Write down the MAC address and complete a Web Help Desk Request.
  • After the registration form has been received your game system will be assigned an IP address within two business days which will allow your game system to connect online for the school year.

REMEMBER: you are responsible for all activity that takes place from the equipment registered to you.
