Connecting Other Devices

Can I connect my device to Allegheny’s Internet?

Most computers, game systems, and mobile devices using Android or iOS should be able to connect either to Allegheny’s wired or wireless network (sometimes both).

For devices other than computers, mobile devices, or game systems, the answer is “It depends.” Some commonly used devices include Amazon Fire TV Sticks, Smart TVs, and digital assistants such as Google Home or Amazon Echo. Whether these can be connected depends on a variety of factors.

Some questions to ask:

  • Check your device’s manual, or the manufacturer’s support pages online, to see if your device supports a type of connection called  802.1x. If so:
  • If your device isn’t compatible with 802.1x, or won’t allow you to enter a username and password, then check to see if you can use a wired adapter for your device.
    • If you can use a wired adapter, please be sure you have the adapter attached, and then open a Web Help desk request. Use “Internet, Network, Wireless” for the Request Type.
Dropdown menu in Web Help Desk
    • In the next two dropdown boxes, choose “Student Network” and “Wired Connection Request“.
    • Follow the on-screen instructions that will appear.
    • Be sure and fill out all information. This will help smooth the process.
    • A technician from LITS may email you to ask for more details or to follow up with you. The more promptly and accurately you can reply, the sooner we will be able to help you.
