New Phone System Migration and Training Schedule

The dates to move the rest of campus to the new phone system are set. On 10/30, 11/1, 11/6, and 11/8 groups of buildings will migrate to the new system (see details below) each day. The disruption to phone service will be minimal and limited to the moment when an individual number is converted.

In preparation for the migration

    • Mitel Installation technicians will be on campus Monday 10/29 to place phones in offices.  The installers will begin in buildings schedule to migrate on 10/30 first and move to buildings scheduled for 11/1, then on to buildings scheduled for the following week.
    • Once on your desk the phone will work to place calls on and off campus or receive calls from others already on the Mitel System.  You can even set up your voicemail by pressing the voicemail button on your phone and entering the default pin code 1111.
The voicemail button looks like this
    • Calls from the outside world will continue to ring on your old phone until the day you are converted.
    • Find a time to attend the 30 minute Online Training Sessions provided by a Mitel Trainer (see below) and learn how to personalize your voicemail, place calls on hold, transfer calls, and other functions of the new phone.  Those that cannot attend training sessions assigned to their group may attend any other convenient time or rely on either the self-guided training or the printable quick reference sheet.

Dial 8 not 9

Once converted to the new system you will dial an 8 to get an outside line and will need to use the full 10 digits of the number you are calling.

The first days with the new phone system

  1. This is an IP based phone system so your phone will be plugged in using the same data jack as your computer.
  2. The number to get an outside line has switched and you will now need to dial 8 to call individuals off campus (or still on the old system).
  3. All phones have speaker phone functionality so you will be able to use them hands free.
  4. You can unplug your old phone and set it aside.  Someone from LITS will be around in the days after you migrate to retrieve it for recycling.
  5. Should you have questions or experience problems during the implementation phase of the project, you can report issues by emailing webhelp@allegheny.edu with a subject of Mitel Phone Issue and a ticket will be created so we can make sure the issues are resolved.

Info

As of 11/8/2018 when the last number is converted you will be able to reach all on campus offices by dialing their 4 digit extension.
