Please be advised that Winslow Health Center has confirmed numerous cases of influenza on campus. Influenza is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses. Influenza symptoms include fever, cough, sore throat, fatigue, headache. If you think you have the flu, you should get plenty of rest and fluids (water, juices, soda), and take fever reducers (Tylenol and Ibuprofen).
Steps for prevention include: Cover your nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing, dispose of used tissues, wash your hands often with soap and hot water, use alcohol-based hand sanitizers, and avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth–germs spread that way. Stay home if you are sick to avoid infecting others. If you have influenza, you do not need to be examined; however, if you have a complication such as an ear infection or bronchitis or a chronic illness such as asthma, diabetes or a heart condition, you should contact Winslow Health Center at 332-4355 to schedule an appointment. Due to the large volume of students who are being seen with influenza, we cannot accommodate walk-ins at this time.
