Sponsored by the Provost’s office, the Director of Faculty Development is seeking faculty and staff for participation in a six-week book group in on the following Fridays from noon to 1:30 p.m. during Spring 2018 (Feb 2, 9 and 16; March 2 and 16, and April 6). The group will read and discuss Becky Thompson’s “Teaching With Tenderness;” a copy of the book and lunch will be provided. This book explores innovative pedagogies for teaching the realities of a challenging world to a changing student population by examining contemplative practices to teach topics related to trauma, systemic violence, and racial, sexual, religious, gender, and class injustices.

“Drawing on women-of-colors theories, multiracial feminist pedagogy, contemplative practices, trauma studies, yoga, and a wide array of additional scholarship from diverse disciplines, Thompson develops innovative pedagogies of tenderness—radically inclusive, relational, generous, visionary modes of interacting with others.” – AnaLousie Keating
There are seats for 10 participants. Catharina Coenen, Lydia Eckstein, and Barbara Shaw are the organizers. Interested educators are asked to contact Catharina Coenen by December 15, 2017.
