Consider an internship experience where you can earn 4 credits with no final test, finish early (April 15), learn how to prepare tax returns, and assist people who really need your help. It’s called Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA). The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program is a nationwide IRS program designed to help low and moderate income taxpayers complete annual tax returns at no cost. Meadville VITA (Econ 501) is being offered in spring 2019 and is a 4-credit internship for students in the course. Students will receive training in preparing income taxes and using the IRS software prior to the tax season, then for 10 weeks from February through April, students will work preparing taxes for low- and middle-income residents in our community. This opportunity not only provides a valuable skill and looks good on a resume, but it also creates positive interactions with the community. To register for the course, email Professor Stephanie Martin, smartin@allegheny.edu.
